Director's Notes

Director’s Notes

I set out this summer to celebrate our tenth season with two Broadway classics. Our first offering was Oklahoma! It was the re-staging of our very first show and one of the all-time greats. Hello Dolly was another classic of the great White Way that seemed a fitting addition to our theatre history. One of those shows that are unfortunately not performed that often; it is a funny, fast-paced and endearing American musical, based on Thornton Wilder’s timeless masterpiece,The Matchmaker. When longtime friend Maggie Gallagher returned for the role, I knew we had made a wise choice. Tons and tons of hard work have gone into this production from a veritable army of dedicated volunteers. I want to thank them for every second of heartfelt devotion.

This is also the story of two Mike’s. One is Mike Larson, a man who walked into my office several weeks ago, after experiencing the wonder of his wife Marie’s performance as Ado Annie in our production of Oklahoma! He wanted to know if there was anything a guy who couldn’t see could do to be a part of this theatre family. I told him if he was willing to walk out on this stage, then I would be willing to treat him as any other actor. He showed up for auditions and hasn’t missed a beat since. You’re an inspiration to us all, Mike.

On a sadder note, we will miss seeing Mike Morris’ huge smiling face in the audience nightly. Mike was the father of WSCT family member, Matt Morris. Many of you will remember Matt for his portrayals of Curly in Oklahoma, Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar and Jo Jo in Seussical! Mike not only never missed one of Matt’s performances, he never missed a rehearsal! I have never seen a more devoted parent and WSCT supporter. He was one of our favorite people and he will be missed nightly! This performance is dedicated to Mike, a great man with a great love for his son and all that theatre can do for our young people! We love ya, Mike!
